Words that are new or seldom used that I run across in media or my research.\u00a0 Dawned on me others might be interested too. As I find them,\u00a0 I am posting them on my Twitter feed @ClaireCount.\u00a0 I will do a monthly post to\u00a0summarize the list.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Excoriate<\/strong> &#8211; verb &#8211; to severely\u00a0criticize\u00a0 &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The ABC boss excoriated his staff after the snafu over Michael Flynn error.\u00a0 This really jumped out as American headlines almost never use rich language.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/12\/04\/media\/abc-news-president-brian-ross-flynn-correction\/index.html\">http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/12\/04\/media\/abc-news-president-brian-ross-<\/a>flynn-correction\/index.html<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 562px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/M\/MV5BMTM2NzQ5MjA5N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNTM5MjU3Mw@@._V1_SX1500_CR0,0,1500,999_AL_.jpg\" alt=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/character\/ch0204756\/mediaviewer\/rm2989522944\" width=\"552\" height=\"368\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ruth Wilson as Alice Morgan in BBC&#8217;s Luther<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Sympatico<\/strong> &#8211; noun &#8211; bonded, being of the same mind, in sync<\/p>\n<p>I had heard the word before but was surprised\u00a0it was a real world and not just jargon.\u00a0 On the same day, I heard it from a sociopath on BBC&#8217;s marvelous crime drama <em>Luther<\/em>, which I highly recommend. Intense acting by Idris Elba.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbcamerica.com\/shows\/luther\">http:\/\/www.bbcamerica.com\/shows\/luther <\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Simpatico&#8221; was used on Mike Luckovich&#8217;s political cartoon on 12\/6\/2017 for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, which at some point will appear on gocomics.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocomics.com\/comics\/political\">http:\/\/www.gocomics.com\/comics\/political\u00a0\u00a0<\/a>I admire Mike Luckovich; He is a Pulitzer Prize winning\u00a0political cartoonists and often illustrates events in a way which makes you think about them differently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agitprop<\/strong> &#8211; Noun &#8211; political propaganda often in art or literature<\/p>\n<p>Seen in the outstanding webcomic #Endtown by Aaron Neathery about a supremacist faction\u00a0 http:\/\/www.gocomics.com\/endtown\/2017\/10\/27<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jugaad &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0noun &#8211; from India- a hack or finagled solution &#8211; An untranslatable word for winging it<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/culture\/story\/20171213-jugaad-an-untranslatable-word-for-winging-it?ocid=ww.social.link.twitter via @BBC_Culture #amwriting #writerslife #vocabulary<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patrimony<\/strong> &#8211; noun &#8211; derived from Latin word pater- father &#8211;\u00a0 originally meant inheritance from father now means heritage in general.
